Applications and implications
This Application and implication week is mainly about final project and
how to integrates all the learning from the weeks covered and to document and answer important questions regarding our final project.
Final Project Background:
Since I was continuing student, since I already made
my final project, Dr. Bin at VIGYAN ASHRAM on 2018 and
I had pictures and videos, I thought it should work and also since I’m am setting my
start-up I could not
give my time fully. And on May 21st having conversation with my local instructor,
He mentioned that the videos isn’t good enough, hence, recommended that I make a simple one and
I had roughly 24 days, considering my situation, I had half of that time, and the next two days,
I spent thinking about what to make and from few idea that came up, making an AUTO Curtain binder
which used LDR sensor to open and close with light was something that was simple enough that didn’t
require a long time but enough to meet the requirements of the final projects.
Details follow
What will it do?
The project will use LDR sensor and using gear machanisim and geared motor with high tensile steel wire to open and close curtain.
This project had real utility for me personally, this project will be installed on my room at my start-up site, as daylight breaks,
I will wake up to the bright sunshine welcomed by the Auto Curtain and this is cool!
Similar Projects?
There are various similar products that is already available in the market but all that are above $200 for something that fits my application and looking into DIY projects made by others, the mechanism is quite easy but there was no project that is properly packaged, this was possibility that can be harnessed using the Fab Lab equipment.

What will you design?
The idea is very simple, I wanted to use gears and pully system to push and
pull high tensile steel driven by high torque geared DC motor activated by LDR and
stopped by limit switches. I needed a strong stable housing to protect from the torque of the geared motor.

What parts and systems will be made?
As I just procure component modules and parts, everything needs to be fabricated including the main control boards.
Fabrication of circuitry and structure building are main things which I need to do for this project.
Some important lists required to do are:
• Fabrication of Controller boards of ESP32-wroom
• Interfacing of input and output with controller
• Communication linking between controller boards
• Developing of the structures

What questions need to be answered?
What motivates you for this project?
• Taking advantages of Fab Academy, I wanted to make something that I can personally use.
How well can your project be in real field?
• Since this will be installed directly into my own window, I will be using it daily and will be able to observe how it functions.
How sure are you that you can complete your project on time?
- Since this is a very simple project, I am sure I won’t need even 10 days to complete, I took about 6 days from start to finish to complete the work, which was very last minute but I’m glad I finally did my presentation as not having completed the academy has been bothering me a bit.
What is the future scope for your project?
• One very immediate feature I would like to add is link ESP 32 to google home / Alexa for voice control.
• The project is received interest from friends who wants something similar for their homes.
How will it be evaluated?
Though this project is very simple, I had the opportunities to learn many things about gear mechanism, tensile strength and to reconnect with the Lab after years away building my start-up. Mostly, important apart from meeting all the requirements of final projects, it will be used daily on my farm.
